A Special Limited Season from January 6!

From A24 Studios (Midsommar, The Lighthouse, Moonlight) Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand star in Joel Coen’s bold, fierce and phenomenally wicked adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play; a tale of murder, madness, ambition, and wrathful cunning.

A power-hungry Macbeth (Washington), sets his sights on the Scottish throne after receiving a prophecy from three witches (Kathryn Hunter). Macbeth’s loyal and ambitious wife Lady Macbeth (McDormand) jumps at the opportunity for the throne, feeding these sinister ambitions until both parties slip into a fatal entanglement of murder and madness.

Coen’s reimagining of Macbeth masterfully translates stage to screen, stripping the classic story down to its darkest narrative and visual bones to create an otherworldly imagining that is being hailed as one of the finest Shakespeare adaptations ever made. Washington and McDormand are a formidable pairing, expertly embodying the aging couple poisoned by ambition and greed.

“Stark but utterly compelling, this chilling take on Macbeth is a visually stunning tour de force. It’s as good as you’d expect from this cast and crew, which is saying something.” – Empire

” It’s stage-bound in all the right ways, reminiscent of a much earlier cinema, when filmmakers barely stepped outdoors and wielded magic with shadow and light on soundstages. It’s short, sharp and savage.” – Time Out

“This is a black-and-white world of violence and pain that scorches the retina.” – The Guardian

“Phenomenally dark and wicked, Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth is the most worthy adaptation of a Shakespearean work that has been seen on screen in years. ” – Shadow and Act

“Joel Coen’s triumphant film of Shakespeare’s tragedy astounds on every level, with Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand, two acting titans, playing an aging couple taking their last shot at murderous ambition. You can’t take your eyes off them.” – ABC News
