STANLEY KUBRICK FESTIVAL – A CLOCKWORK ORANGE

Rating: R18+
Length: 136 mins
Cast: Malcolm McDowell, Patrick Magee, Michael Bates

Alex (Malcolm McDowall in his most iconic performance) is a charismatic sociopath in a futuristic England who along with his fellow ‘droogs’ spends his time between the Korova Milk Bar and enthusiastically indulging in “a little of the old ultraviolence” in the streets. But when his vicious ways see him bundled into a rehabilitation program that conditions him to abhor violence, Alex becomes a victim of the very people he used to reduce to a bloody pulp. Adapting Anthony Burgess’ novel that questioned whether aversion therapy for immoral behaviour was an impingement on free will, Kubrick’s most controversial film is also his slyest satire.
