The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the 1975 musical comedy horror film and an adaptation of The Rocky Horror Show, a musical stage play, book, music, and lyrics by Richard O’Brien.
Still in limited release nearly four decades after its premiere, it has the longest-running theatrical release in film history.
It gained notoriety as a midnight movie in 1977 when audiences began participating with the film in theatres.
The film has a large international cult following and is one of the most well-known and financially successful midnight movies of all time.
In 2005, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
“The film itself is a lot of fun but the audience participation phenomenon has turned it into a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience” – TV Guide
“ One hundred minutes of pure queer celebration that manages to concoct a bizarre cocktail of sincerity and reckless abandon” – Little White Lies
“A string of hummable songs gives it momentum, Gray’s admirably straight-faced narrator holds it together, and a run on black lingerie takes care of almost everything else” – Timeout
“Love it or hate it, this is a trip you’re likely never going to forget” – Apollo Guide
