History of The Lounge

The intimate "Lounge" cinema is located inside the former ballroom of the old theatre. This Cinema opened in 1988.

The dome in the centre of the ceiling is a copy of the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, California, which is regarded as the finest art-deco theatre in the world.

Much of the plasterwork on the ceiling is copied from the original ballroom design.

Features of the Cinema

The cinema features a wall to wall screen, full DTS Digital stereo sound and projection facilities for 16mm and 35mm films.

It's a delighted setting of plush red velvet seats with deeply coloured stained glass light fittings. The Lounge seats 167 people.
