The Walsh

History of The Walsh

THE WALSH cinema is named after Mike Walsh who has financially committed to the complete renovation of the entire Orpheum complex since its re-opening through his own private company, Hayden Theatre Pty. Ltd. which also owns the Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne.

From his passionate love of the cinema experience, extraordinary care and expense has gone into each of these cinemas, including this one which is the first art-moderne cinema built in Australia in over 50 years.

Features of the Cinema

The source of lighting for this cinema is hundreds of metres of concealed neon which, via computer control, can generate 15 different colour changes.

Other features of the cinema include two sets of lavish curtains. The plush red velvet curtain rises
to reveal the dramatic silver rouched curtain, which in turn rises to reveal the screen.

The Walsh features NEC 2K Digital projection and Dolby Digital Cinema Sound. The Walsh has a seating capacity of 292.
