The Rex


History of The Rex

The Rex Theatre opened on July 21st, 2000. It is named after Mike Walsh’s home town theatre, The Rex in Corowa, near Albury in NSW. This was the local cinema for Mike and his family where they operated the local pub.Mike credits the Rex for the development of his absolute passion to one day operate his own picture show.

Features of the Cinema

The striking stylised fern-fronds patterns of the plasterwork in the Rex are copies of original deco patterns salvaged from the Palace Theatre, Canterbury.

Also featured are spectacular star light fittings in this elegant atmosphere of rich autumnal colours with luxurious seating.

The main curtain is highlighted above by a golden ‘R’. The Rex features NEC 2K Digital projection and Dolby Digital Cinema Sound.
